    Sy is die enigste lid uit hierdie gesin wat meegedoen het aan die Groot Trek na Natal en dit het vir haar groot hartseer gebring. In 1838, op trek naby Liebenbergsvlei by Bethlehem, het haar man, Paul, voor die wiel van ‘n swaar belaaide skotskar vol lemoenboompies geval en is hy so beseer dat hy 14 dae later oorlede en begrawe is. Sy graf is nog sigbaar van die pad af. Sy is verder met haar kinders saam na Natal waar sy oorlede is in 1873.
